Welcome to G Slade's Station and a warm welcome to the 2012 version of the
website which has had some major changes made to improve navigation through
the site and also improve the look and design of the pages contained within
the site. Also this years site brings with it a NEW!! logo which replaces
the welsh dragon logo from last years website. The 2011 version of the
website was a huge hit and I received some fantastic feedback from visitors
and one of the ideas put to me was a page of "Railway Walk" and I am
currently working on this page to see if it could work on the website and
for news on this or any other pages please see the Latest News page.
Perhaps because it was the birthplace, Britain can host more railway
attractions per square mile than any other country. The figures are
impressive: more than 100 heritage railways and 60 steam centres are home to
700 operational steam locomotives steamed up by an army of 23.000
enthusiastic volunteers are offering everyone the chance to savour a bygone
age of riding on a
lovingly restored and preserved train hauled by a steam locomotive. The
surroundings - stations, signal boxes, wagons and coaches - are equally well
restored and preserved and these are much in demand by TV companies filming
period dramas or feature films for the big screen. The survivals of these
historic steam locomotives would not of been possible without the volunteers
spending there spare time to undertake repairs, major overhaul and
also operating the locomotives a passenger trains throughout the year on the
preserved railways and also on the main line.

Wales in particular deserves a special mention for its Narrow Gauge lines
which were real working railways (links to many can be found in the navbar
to the left) the Welshpool and Llanfair Light Railway is of special interest
to me. Originally hauling a wide variety of goods including coal, livestock
and the occasional passengers it now presents a wonderful way for visitors
to enjoy the breathtaking scenery of the Banwy Valley and River in Powys
Wales. The Talyllyn Railway is also of particular and special interest to me
as the railway was built to haul Slate, Goods and passengers between Nant
Gwernol and Tywyn where it was transferred onto the mainline at the railways
Wharf at Tywyn. Both of there railways still have there Original Locomotives
and some rolling stock which has survived into Preservation for everyone to
see and photograph.
As you navigate through my website you will be able to read about my
volunteering turns in the volunteering diary page and also look through the
Photo Galleries and Special Pages on different subjects which I upload
during the summer.
Also you can view the latest news page and also see
upcoming special events on the Welshpool and Llanfair Light Railway and the
Talyllyn Railway.
There are also plans for a NEW!!! Feedback page which will be released
during 2012 so watch this space!!!
